Debugging git setup: could not read from remote repository

When you interact with a remote git repo, you can hit the following permission error:

git@example.com: Permission denied (publickey).
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights
and the repository exists.

There might be a problem with the SSH config. To diagnose if that's the case, ssh to the remote server with

$ ssh -vT git@example.com

The -v is for a verbose mode and the -T for disabling the pseudo-terminal allocation.

This might help.
